Traveling Scholarships

The entry cycle is open annually from January until March 1 of each year.

TRAVELING SCHOLARSHIPS

Florence G. and Arthur A. Fisher, FAIA, Traveling Scholarship 

Purpose: For travel and study outside the continental United States.

Eligibility: Available to architects licensed by and residing in Colorado or faculty of College of Architecture and Planning at the University of Colorado. Available to graduates or students from accredited Architectural programs. Preference will be given to AIA Colorado members, CU faculty and students              

Award amount: $5,000

Notes: This annual award may be divided between two recipients.                        

To apply: Applicant must submit a completed application form and include project statement, proposed plan of procedure, expected accomplishment, itinerary with approximate dates, tentative budget, and three letters of reference. Not to exceed 10 pages total. Successful applicant agrees to provide a written two-page summary of the recipients experience and a report or presentation.

James M. Hunter, FAIA, Traveling Scholarship

Purpose: For travel and study in the western hemisphere to study the Architecture of the Americas.

Eligibility: Available to architects licensed by and residing in Colorado or a faculty member in the College of Architecture and Planning. Available to graduates or students from accredited Architectural programs. Preference will be given to AIA Colorado members, CU faculty and students                       

Award amount: $2,500

Notes: One Scholarship awarded annually

Hobart D. Wagener, FAIA, Traveling Scholarship

Purpose: For travel and study of the architecture of the world. 

Eligibility: Available to architects under the age of 40 practicing in Colorado. Available to graduates from accredited Architectural programs.

To apply: Applicants must show:

  • Demonstrated passion for learning about architecture in another part of the country or world

  • Ability to complete travel within one year of the scholarship award.

  • Willingness to attend and share the travel experience at the following year’s Hobart D. Wagener, FAIA, Award dinner

  • Preference will be given to applicants showing a strong design orientation.  Some illustration of personal design experience is encouraged.

  • Preference will be given to AIA Colorado members, CU faculty.                  

Award amount: $6,000

Virginia E. and Robert K. Fuller, AIA, Traveling Scholarship            

Purpose: This award is restricted to the study of Architecture/Urban Design. Of the artifacts that we as architects can affect, few have a greater influence on the human condition than the communities we create. The intent of this award is to provide the recipient the opportunity to study and experience the diversity of man-made spaces and develop the skills to enhance the livability and humanity of our communities through design.

Eligibility: Available to architects licensed by and residing in Colorado, or a faculty member in the College of Architecture and Planning. Available to graduates from accredited Architecture/Urban Design programs. Applicants must show:

  • Demonstration of a passion for learning about communities to broaden and influence applicant’s design skills. 

  • Ability to complete travel within one year of the scholarship award.

  • Willingness to attend an award program to receive the scholarship.

  • Preference will be given to AIA Colorado members, CU faculty.            

Award amount: $7,500

Notes: One Scholarship awarded annually. This annual award may be divided between two recipients.
